70%

Lower quality means smaller files. 60–80% is a good balance for the web.

PNG is lossless, so PNG files stay PNG with “Same as original”. Choose WebP or JPG to shrink them.

Large photos shrink much more when they're also resized.

How it works

Image compression removes detail your eyes barely notice to make files much smaller. Add your images, pick a quality level and download the compressed versions — the tool shows how much space each one saves.

  • Quality trades file size for detail. 60–80% is a good balance for websites and email.
  • Format: WebP produces the smallest files and works in all modern browsers. JPG is the most compatible. PNG is lossless, so convert PNG photos to WebP or JPG to shrink them.
  • Maximum size: photos straight from a camera or phone are often 4000+ px wide. Limiting them to around 2000 px usually cuts the size far more than quality alone.

Compression runs entirely in your browser. Your images are never uploaded.

Example

A 4,032 × 3,024 phone photo for a website

  1. 1Quality 75%, format WebP, maximum size 2000 px
  2. 2The photo is scaled to 2,000 × 1,500 px and re-encoded
  3. 3File sizes typically drop by 80–95%, depending on the photo

A sharp web-ready image that loads in a fraction of the time.

Frequently asked questions

Why did a file get larger?

Images that are already well compressed can grow when re-encoded at a higher quality, and PNG files stay lossless in PNG format. Lower the quality, choose WebP, or keep the original — the result shows the change for every file.

Is it safe for private images?

Yes. Compression happens in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Metadata such as GPS location is also removed.

What's the best format for the web?

WebP is usually 25–35% smaller than JPG at similar quality and is supported by every modern browser. Use JPG when you need maximum compatibility with older software.

Is there a limit?

You can compress up to 30 images at a time, up to 100 MB each. Very large images depend on your device's memory.
